Would you like a low-cost building to rent out as short-stay holiday accommodation, like a separate Airbnb rental in your own backyard? Our customer in coastal Metung, Gippsland, Victoria, got exactly what they wanted by starting with a Backyard Pod kit 4m x 6m. This example is styled to suit the personal taste of its proud owner who saved megabucks by doing most of the work himself.
When people live near the coast or in a beautiful regional location, they often find that their family and friends and keen to visit and stay a while (or even longer). Unless you’re lucky enough to have a really large home, houseguests can easily put pressure on the accommodation and facilities in the main house, and hosts might struggle for privacy.
Our customer at Metung, a peaceful rural location on the remote mid-eastern coast of the Gippsland region in Victoria, really needed a little backyard cabin with private facilities where guests could stay separately. An elaborate beachside granny flat might have made a great investment, but our customer’s budget was tight. The dream of a separate guesthouse would only be achievable for them by starting with one of our flatpack building kits, applying a little ingenuity and imagination, and doing much of the work DIY.
So, taking the whole situation into account, this mini guesthouse is quite an achievement. Within only 24sqm internal space there’s a spacious sleeping area, well-appointed ensuite bathroom, and functional kitchenette. The custom facade was a personalised option made easy because the structural steel framing of Backyard Pods allows the standard Colorbond to be replaced by different cladding without compromising the engineering. Our double-glazed Polar Eco-View sliding door and windows with black frames, locks, and flyscreens look smart and add greater energy efficiency. A custom timber deck provides a more auspicious entry and somewhere pleasant for guests to relax outside.
You can see from the pics kindly sent by our customer that their homemade holiday cabin is already occupied by a guest staying for a while (or a little longer). Our customer is very proud of their completed project and altogether pleased with the resulting benefits.
