Many customers with some previous building experience and the right tools successfully undertake their own Backyard Pod installation projects starting with one of our pre-engineered flat-pack kits. The kits come with just about everything you need to get to lock-up stage (plus doors/windows) and then handypeople types can take their own time with the interior fit-out, getting connections organised, etc.
What do we call previous building experience? Well, you would need to have built something before so that you understand the basic principles of construction. Our Backyard Pod kits are pre-engineered and come with instructions but remember putting a building together is not as simple as putting together an IKEA bookcase (and some people will tell you that’s not simple at all).
You’ll need to cut the holes for your doors and windows on-site, which is great because you can make any final adjustments in positioning when you can properly appreciate the outlook from your pod. The bits of the frame that you cut get pushed to the sides to reinforce the window opening, and the lintels that we’ll pre-cut to fit your window openings get added for extra strength on top. Obviously, if you’ve never framed and installed a window before, you could struggle to try to do it for the very first time on your own brand-new building.
If you’re not so sure about cutting steel and installing windows, but you’re still a very handy person, you can get your Backyard Pod kit installed to lock-up via one of the many experienced installers in our network, and then use your DIY skills to complete the interior fit-out.
